yoga teacher, ayurveda wellness coach

shelby, nc

yoga found me after years of anxiety and some pretty traumatic events. I discovered that once I committed to my personal practice and started to notice the changes in the way I was showing up in the world, I wanted to share the gift of yoga with others. this led me to joining vira bhava yoga’s 200 hour YTT in september of 2020 and their 300 hour YTT in january of 2021. initially, I thought I began the practice because I was drawn to the aesthetic of the physical form—which I would later learn is SUCH a MINUSCULE part of what yoga truly is—but I’ve come to understand that there was a deeper driving desire present underneath. it felt like divine intervention. a few years prior to starting yoga teacher training, I felt the call to pursue a degree in “alternative” medicine, but never followed through. I believe that my inner healer and its desire to help others was determined to put me on this path, one way or another, in the manner that was right for me. I continue to feel and honor the pull, which has led me to deepen my studies and become a certified ayurveda wellness coach.

the yoga I teach moves away from this modern idea that your asana practice needs to be a workout, or a method of escape. my intention is to help you on your path to connecting deeper with yourself and your body's own innate wisdom through utilization of asana (physical postures), prana (energetics), pranayama (breath practices), mantra (sacred sound), and dhyana (meditation).

I think it's important to state that although physical asana practice is a very valuable tool, it's only a small fraction of what the container of yoga holds. it's also worth noting that asana is not intended to be "perfect" or performative, contrary to what western culture would have us believe. indu arora says that yogasana is inspiration from nature, and when we look at the poses through that lens, we’ll see that there’s much more room for variation in how things look in our bodies and how we approach each asana. nature isn’t uniform, it’s perfectly imperfect. it’s just like us, because we are a part of nature.

when I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time in nature with my husky-pit mix, luna.
